Yesterday
14 years ago we had a romantic dream of having a vineyard. After a lot of searching and planning we found our own little patch of heaven.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as our first 150 acres we purchased in 2004 had no power, no phone service (not even mobile), and no water but we did have undulating land, great views and a dream.
We started planting in 2005 and have kept growing ever since. We bought the farm next door and doubled our vineyard. Gibraltar Park Vineyard has grown to 340 acres with three road access and our boundary is walking distance to the hotel. (A point my Dad has always said is important).
When we look back now we wonder how it has all evolved. We not only had to fight the weather; we planted in the middle of the worst drought in 100 years, but we had to overcome the hurdles that were Ergon, Telstra, The Bank, Government Departments, the Wine Glut and the Knockers. We had to believe in ourselves, and to those people who had faith – THANK YOU! Enjoy!
Our first vintage is now also yesterday's news with another year come and gone. 2009 Verdelho proved to be an excellent example of the variety and sold extremely well. To our costumers: a BIG glass of appreciation!
May I suggest our new vintage; 2010 VerdelhoVoignier Early Harvest @ 9.8% alcohol, 2010 Verdelho @ 13.5% and our 2009 Shiraz Merlot Cabernet @ 12.8%!
